Two of Swords card

Upright

    • Cutting out excess.
    • Breaking bad habits.
    • Being mindful of the big picture.
    • Making a sacrifice.
    • Going without for the greater good, for the self, family, friends, society, or the future in general.
    • Taking time out of one's day to contribute, perhaps by going to a cleanup day.
    • Determining objectively what will work for the best in the long run, and choosing that path.
    • Decisions in the interest of society.
    • The democratic process— many people coming together to decide.

The Two of Swords is Air (logic, decisions being made, awareness and knowledge) related to peace, harmony, and balance, which are indicated by the number two. It can signify sacrifices which are necessary to maintain essential balance, whether it be that of a fiscal budget, personal or interpersonal emotional equilibrium, or any other crucial balance. On a broader scale this may mean making sacrifices for family or even society at large: perhaps giving up one's free day to take part in a cleanup day at a school or park, or giving up much free time or money to help care for ailing family members. Every now and then it is necessary that people go without for the greater good.

The number two can also indicate a plurality, and combined with the decisive power of Air can represent a democratic vote, or people coming together to decide anything.

The Abstract Two of Swords is abstract Air (knowing, objectivity, contemplation, understanding) related to peace, harmony, and balance which are indicated by the number two.

This is one abstractly oriented card which can be interpreted in a more concrete sense, in part for its appearance. Two swords lowered can indicate a ceasefire in a conflict. It may also indicate mercy, or a pardon.

This card could indicate understanding where another person is coming from. It may not necessarily indicate forgiveness, but it is probably indicative of knowledge which will move a person to be more mindful of another's experiences and present situation before judging them.
