Suit cards are cards featuring coins, wands, cups, swords, or bells. Each suit card displays between two and seven pips, or suit pictures. Oriented upright they are considered representative of things in the physical world. Oriented reversed they are considered Abstract, representative of things in the personal world: feelings, imaginings, ideas, and so on. There are exceptions, of course, where reversed cards represent events or objects in the physical world and vice versa.
Every suit card except for the twos has two elemental associations. The primary elemental association is determined by the suit. Coins represent Earth, wands represent Fire, cups represent Water, swords represent Air, bells represent Ether. The secondary elemental association is determined by the number. Threes represent Fire, fours represent Earth, fives represent Ether, sixes represent Water, and sevens represent Air. Twos are associated with the suit element and with the ideas of balance and harmony.
The combined associations of the suit, number, and orientation for each of these cards determine its meaning. Standard meanings are given on this website, though readers can determine their own meanings for each card if they so choose.
